Improving ACOLITE setting for high altitude

Please, I was wondering what I can do to improve ACOLITE in the Arctic - I am assuming default settings won't work in such environment (i.e., high latitude)?

My guess the main difficulty will be low sun elevation in general, which may cause problems for the plane parallel assumptions used in 6SV. Another user was using ACOLITE in the Barents Sea, and found that the default processing underestimated the aerosol optical thickness: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=298

In general I find better results for ACOLITE for turbid waters, so the results may also be target dependent.

I have recently identified that the low sun zenith angle could be a reason for the general underestimation of the aerosol optical depth. I will need to do some more tests, but will keep you informed.
