Re: working on images in different row
Hi Federica Thanks for your comment! There are a number of reasons why the overlapping rho_w are different: the difference in time of the second image (probably minor), and the difference in median aerosol type (epsilon) selected over the two scenes. If you are using a small study area that happens ...

Re: Change cloud threshold
Hi Nicholas This feature will be in the next version of ACOLITE. There will be an option to choose the band (865, 1609, 2201) and the threshold. There will also be the option to use the BQA data provided by USGS with each scene. Currently I do not recommend using the BQA for water applications. In t...

Re: Writing error with more output bands
Hi Carole, There should be no limit on the number of output bands, however there is a limit on the size of the NetCDF file. ACOLITE currently writes NetCDF3 files that have a file size limit of ~2GB. The datasets are stored as 4 byte floats, so if you are processing full tiles you reach this limit a...

ACOLITE 20150306.0
ACOLITE version 20150306.0 was publicly released on 2015-03-06. Notable updates include the posibility to use the SRTM DEM for determining the elevation of inland waters, batch mode through the command line, output of additional L2 parameters, applying gains per band, determining sub-scene epsilon, ...

Where to get Landsat-8 data?
Landsat 8 data are provided in GEOTIFF format in tiles of ~185x180 km, and can be acquired free of charge from different sites: e.g. - USGS EarthExplorer http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ - ESA L8 portal https://landsat8portal.eo.esa.int/portal/ (provides only European coverage) The downloaded scenes a...

Var river plume, need better mountain shadow flagging
Note: The following message was originally posted at the old ACOLITE board. At IOCCG Summer School I downloaded a random image of Villefranche. Processing went well and shows the Var river plume as well as smaller sediment plumes (e.g. discharge at East side of Villefranche Bay), boat wakes, etc. T...

Suggest better error message when unable to allocate memory
Note: The following message was originally posted at the old ACOLITE board. At IOCCG Summer School, most of the memory allocation problems seemed to be solved with respect to beta versions. However, I did see one on a 4GB RAM Windows machine. The solution was to check Task Manager to see what other...

Suggest better error message when crop region out of L8 tile
Note: The following message was originally posted at the old ACOLITE board. At IOCCG Summer School we had a few problems understanding why acolite gave a "Sanity check: Crop outside region" message with an image West of Ireland, so West of Greenwich, negative longitude. More generally the...

About ACOLITE (old)
ACOLITE is a stand-alone version of the IDL processing for Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 developed at RBINS. It allows simple and fast processing of L8 and S2 images for marine and inland water applications. Features include generation of RGB images before (TOA) and after (RCO) Rayleigh correction, atmos...

ACOLITE 20141107.0
ACOLITE version 20141107.0 was released after the 2015 Ocean Optics conference in Portland, Maine. Updates since 20140722.0: - more efficient (accurate?) calculation of lon/lat from GeoTIFF tags and better crop positioning - crop when rather than after reading GeoTIFF files - mapping now uses UTM co...
