Level 2 Surface Reflectance Units

Post by catherine »

Hi Quinten!

I am trying to compare outputs from LaSRC, SeaDAS and ACOLITE. All the outputs give me layers called "remote sensing reflectance (Rrs)" but I am not sure they are all actually in the same units.

What are the units for the Rrs produced by ACOLITE? In the processing options doc it says the parameter is RRS: Remote sensing reflectance but doesn't give units. Is this Rrs the same as the Rrs produced by LaSRC and SeaDAS's l2gen processor?

Thanks so much!

Hi Catherine

The current version of ACOLITE (Python Public Beta) outputs surface reflectances (rhos) which have no units.

I will add the output of Remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) in the next version, which have inverse steradian as units (sr-1). You can convert rhos to Rrs by dividing by pi: Rrs = rhos/pi

Great! Thanks for your response Quentin.

I have been using the older version (version=20170718.0). In the processing options doc http://odnature.naturalsciences.be/down ... 0718.0.pdf for this version, there is an RRS output option. If I ran that instead of the RHO option, does that actually output RRS (sr-1)?

Just wanting to confirm.
