About REMSEM

The Remote Sensing and Ecosystem Modelling (REMSEM) team is part of Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS), Operational Directorate Natural Environment (OD Nature).

Our mission is to carry our scientific research and analysis in the field of marine ecosystems with the aim of improving the long term scientific basis for management of the marine ecosystem, particularly for Belgian waters. REMSEM specialises in the use of remote sensing and ecosystem modelling tools to achieve this goal.

Our activities range from fundamental scientific research through applied research to specific advice to governmental organisations responsible for management of the natural patrimony, in particular relating to international conventions such as the OSPAR Convention, the European Union Water Framework and Marine Strategy Framework Directives.

Most of our work is achieved via research projects, carried out in collaboration with a range of partners from universities and public and private research centres, mainly from Belgium and Europe.

A good idea of our previous work can be seen in our publications.

REMSEM consists of a small multidisciplinary team of scientists.
